Arrr me Hearties! We be off on another adventure on the high
seas, in search of booty in foreign lands! Rocky River are about
to take off for Europe on the band's 5th International tour,
playing at festivals in Brittany, Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands.
We start the tour at the Skagen Folk Festival in Denmark, one
of the longest running festivals in Europe. Skagen is a big
festival and some of the acts featured are The Dubliners, Donovan,
The Oysterband, Paul Young, Tommy Fleming and Eleanor Shanley,
so it should be quite an experience! After that we travel down
to Brittany to perform at Brest 2004, the biggest maritime festival
in the world, attracting over 1000 tall ships and sailing vessels
of all kinds and an audience of around 1 million people over
six days - hard to imagine. Our performances there include an
evening concert on the sea-shanty stage, sailing the next day
on one of the tall ships to entertain visitors and we’ll be
the feature act at a concert in an old castle near Brest. While
we’re in Brittany we’ll also meet up with two other old friends,
Fanch le Marrec and Jean-Paul Ferrec, who made such a big impression
when they played here in 1998, and our Canadian friend Tom Lewis,
who has also played at South Coast Folk Club. Our itinerary
then takes us to Germany to play at Shanty Festivals in Hamburg
and Bremen, then on to The Netherlands for festival performances
at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen, Appingedam Shanty Festival
and the “Slag op t’ Veide” in Giethoorn. We’ll also be playing
at some folk clubs, cafes, Irish Pubs, etc. in The Netherlands,
Denmark and Brittany. If you have access to the Internet, you
can keep up with our progress on Rocky River's website at:
Rocky River Tour Page - hopefully we will have some time
in between gigs to send some progress reports by email. .....
Pete.
