Rocky
River released a new CD in 1999 - "Sea Boots And Swags".
It features the band's tour lineup and includes many of the
songs and tunes that we performed on the 1999 European tour, including
some Aussie songs and shanties not recorded on other albums. So
far it has received some very good reviews.
We also recorded two CDs in 1997, the first - "We'll
Plough the Briny Ocean" - was released in May, leading up
to our International Tour. It also contains a mixture of Australian
songs, some original, sea songs and shanties and some lively tune
sets, including an Australianised setting of some Breton music
arranged by us.
The second CD - "Shanghaied Crew" - was recorded on
tour in Denmark with Helge Arildso, Cztery Refy from Poland and
Bob Webb from Maine, USA, and features mainly shanties, a song
written by Des Fenoughty on tour and some tune sets. |

Rocky
River Bush Band hail from South Australia. Recently returned
from their third overseas tour, the band has just released
a new CD, "Sea Boots and Swags" which
is jam packed with a wonderful collection of songs and
tunes. It's obvious that the members of the Rocky
River Bush Band love the music they play and the songs
they sing.
This recording has captured their passion and leaves one
with the desire to one day see the band
perform live...Folk Australia |

Rocky River seem
to be able to develop an appropriate feel to suit different
songs. The two originals on the CD, Cate Burke's haunting
Out in the Desert and Des Fenoughty's whimsical
Spirit of Erin, display thoughtful well developed
arrangements and compliment the immediately identifiable
anthems, Home Among the Gum Trees, Limejuice
Tub and I Am Australian. It is on the sea songs
that Rocky River really hit their straps. The a capella
John Cherokee and John Kanaka are powerful
songs, delivered with great gusto. Plains of Mexico
and the enduring Drunken Sailor are rollicking
belters that must go down a treat in live concerts.....Folk
Australia. |

The shantymen
are all in fine voice and attention has been paid to working
in some harmonies to make those choruses more powerful.
I'd certainly recommend it to shanty fans!
